I fell in love with portrait photography after decades of searching for beauty in the pages of classical texts and renaissance artists. Along the way, during my academic career, I developed a yoga habit and a meditation practice that saved my life in more ways than one. These evolved into a fruitful marriage of East and West, history and presence, striving and contemplation. One day, the dialogue between these strands showed up as a desire to make portraits. Photographs convey the beauty of presence, and with it the unique personal stories that converge to create an unrepeatable moment in time. Alternative DC is a playground experiment, an invitation to be curious and create meaning together. It features folks who don’t fit the mold of what the world thinks of as being typical of the city, with its stereotype of suits, starched shirts, and one-dimensional politicians.
Thanks for viewing. Thanks for reading.
